My aim : putting traditional orchards back on the map
Traditional orchards have been under-appreciated in Britain for several decades. This is a tragedy since they are part of our cultural heritage, a beautiful landscape feature and have immense biodiversity value. We are very fortunate to have a long history of fruit growing, with over two thousand varieties of apple alone and great traditions in cider making and perry.
Join me in my quest to discover more about traditional orchards, to celebrate them and to promote them.
I am 25 years old and fanatical about traditional orchards. This blog largely documents a project to restored two fantastic but neglected apple orchards in my home village in Gloucestershire. I am currently working at the People’s Trust for Endangered Species on their hedgehog and beetle campaigns. I am also training as a butcher’s apprentice in an organic farm shop. For me, the present and future is about reconnecting people with the natural world that supports us.
